Keywords: Electrochemistry, protoelectric potential map (PPM),

absolute acidity, absolute reducity

I am the Coordinator Contact for the project UniChem funded by the European Research Council (ERC). This project deals, amongst others, with the Protoelectric Potential Map (PPM) which is the two dimensional plot of absolute pH value pHabs and absolute redox potential (reducity) peabs. Both measures are defined by the absolute chemical potential of the proton and the electron, respectively. Therefore, the PPM is the first thermodynamically consistent scale for pHabs and peabs. The PPM enables the straightforward comparability of the thermochemistry of any redox, acid-base or combined system in any medium to any other.

Involved in this project are the current members Dr. Daniel Himmel, Dr. Przemek Malinowski, Tobias Engesser, Katharina Pütz, Miriam Schwab and Andreas Ermantraut.

Visit the PPM website for further information and to calculate pHabs values and (soon) peabs values for your own applications:
