By airplane

The nearest airport is the Euroairport (IATA codes BSL, MLH and EAP), located near Basel. From there, a shuttle bus service, with which you will arrive at Freiburg main station, operates on a regular basis. (Make sure to buy a return ticket in order to save some money.)

Other larger airports in range are Frankfurt (IATA code FRA), Stuttgart (IATA code STR) and Munich (IATA codeMUC). Furthermore, some smaller airports are Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (IATA code FKB) and Friedrichshafen (IATA code FDH). From all of these airports, you will get to Freiburg most conveniently by train, operated by the Deutsche Bahn.

By train

After arriving at Freiburg i.Br. main station by ICE, IC or regional train, please leave the railway station at the main entrance and go left (heading north). After about 250 m there is a large crossing. Keep the direction and cross the street at the traffic light. On the left hand you'll see a large (modern) university building. Keep the direction until the end of this building (name of the street: Stefan-Meier-Strasse). There is a pedestrian crossing. Cross. Enter the Albertstrasse at the Otto Krayer Haus (Pharmacy Building). After 250 m you find a barrier on the left and the parking lot of our institute (Institut für Anorganische und Analytische Chemie) at Albertstr. 21. Take the entrance from the parking lot (Chemische Institute). You will find us in the 2nd and 3rd floor.

By car

Driving from Frankfurt or Basel (Switzerland) to Freiburg im Breisgau take motorway (Autobahn) A5. From motorway A5 take exit No. 62, "Freiburg-Mitte". This is the central exit to Freiburg. Do not use the exits "Freiburg-Nord" or "Freiburg-Süd". Stay on this road, B31, towards Freiburg for approx. 5 km. You will pass below six bridges before you reach the turn-off for the main railway station ("Hauptbahnhof"). Leave the B31 after passing the 6th bridge (= Schnewlin Brücke) and make a double right turn onto Schnewlinstrasse/Bismarckallee. You will cross the river "Dreisam" and continue to drive towards direction north (pass several traffic lights). After approx. 1 km you will see the entrance of the main railway station (left). Keep the direction and cross another road after about 250 m. Left hand you'll see a sculpture and a large modern university building. Keep direction until the end of the building (name of the street: Stefan-Meier-Strasse) and then turn right into the Albertstrasse. After 250 m you find a barrier on the left and the parking lot of our institute (Institut für Anorganische und Analytische Chemie) at Albertstr. 21. Take the entrance from the parking lot (Chemische Institute). You will find us in the 2nd and 3rd floor.
